Could not have asked for a better start of the new year. Drove through the scenic coastal drive (Cairns to Port Douglas), participated in a traditional "Welcome to Country" and Smoke Ceremony with the Kuku Yalanji, had a swim at Mossman gorge, walked through the oldest surviving rainforest in the world, spotted two wild crocodiles at the Daintree river and saw two world heritage sites (where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef at Cape Tribulation). It's the only place on earth where two natural world heritage sites exist side by side - how unreal is that!?

Spectacular New Years Eve and a spectacular start of 2016. And something to remind myself of, although I rarely do goodbyes. Closeness has nothing to do with distance, and I don't see why I should ever say goodbye to someone I want in my life based on something so silly as miles on a map.

Take this chica for instance

This year we celebrate 24 years as best friends. Twenty-four years. During the last 8 years of our friendship, I have moved, travelled and been away for years at a time. Sometimes we don't see each other for 9 months or more. Distance is simply a "see you later". Some people and places are worth missing, and when you finally catch up again, the people who are worth waiting for will make it seem as if no time has passed at all. So when people ask me how I can stand living away from family and my closest friends, it's because I don't measure my love in miles. Simple as that.
